Episode 015 – Tomb With A View

Recently I completed the new Tomb Raider Game, and I found myself stuck on a thought I’ve had since I played the first game back in my youth.

Lara Croft is too attractive.

I realize how that sounds but I have trouble taking her seriously because of it. She has impossible proportions and a British accent that could melt the cheese off a slice of apple pie. The craziest thing is that she’s been an icon for both avert sexism and woman’s liberation, making her fans a large diverse group of people. As the years have progressed her character has evolved greatly and in direct relation her bust has decreased drastically. Lara is not the same woman she once was, and actually in her latest outing she isn’t a woman at all. (No that is not a new plot twist) Here we see her as a typical teenage girl (although again attractive to a fault) that before the events of this game has never even handled a gun before. It’s a fresh new direction for the series and both Justin and I wanted to take some time and share our thoughts on it. We dive right in, covering everything from gameplay to controversy. It’s a fun time for all.

I just had a terrible thought. What if the game creators caved in and one day decided to put Lara Croft in a hat like Indiana Jones? It’s the next logical step after all. The word Fedorable comes to mind and that makes me hate myself. I hope my wife doesn’t read this one.

So, hey. This is an episode. But not just any episode – a new episode! You don’t have to listen to our old episodes any more! (That’s what you do, right? To fill the long, lonely hours between the First of every month, and the Fifteenth; the Fifteenth to the First; you just listen to a playlist of our old episodes, on repeat. Sometimes in order, sometimes on random. Just hours and hours, of A Trouble with Words goodness seeping into all of your many holes – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That’s what you do, right?  Well, you must be really excited for this episode then.)
This episode we mostly talk about the Tomb Raider franchise, though we made some time to talk about some of the video game exploits of a certain Dr. Jones as well. Nathan Drake, unfortunately, didn’t make the final cut – mostly because I haven’t played much of the Uncharted series yet. So when I was editing, I just gutted the 3 or 4 minutes of Josh telling me how great the series is, and me saying, “Yeah, I’ll play ’em, jeez.” Trust me, it was for the best.
