Episode 011 – Xbox Go Home

It’s upon us. We are on the precipice of the next generation of gaming and I couldn’t be more confused. Still the best part is it’s not just for a small group of hardcore players anymore. Everyday we get closer to having our very own Holodeck with the introduction of new technology such as the Oculus Rift. It could also be argued that advancements such as Google Glass make it more and more possible for things like The Game to take over our every waking hour. It’s a thrilling time for all of those reasons but none as much as the release of new gaming machines. Let me set the scene.

At the time that we recorded this video both Sony and Microsoft had only announced their new consoles at special events. E3 was several weeks away and the anticipation for more info was becoming feverish. People were not happy. Some conflicting information had come out about restrictions on the recently revealed Xbox One and it wasn’t sitting well. Sony was remaining silent on pretty much everything involving the Playstation 4 since their event in February and a concern was growing that they might lock up their system just as Microsoft seemed to be. Was this the way it was going to be? How much would the consoles cost? Will it play my Betamax tapes? Would the advancements in games be enough to overlook all of this?

See what we thought of the events and who left a better impression. Then stay tuned to us for our future episode on E3 where we discuss the grudge match of these two major titans and tell you who we think won. Sorry for the bad timing on this one guys. It’s a certain unnamed company’s fault for having their press reveal so close to their other conference. Also since we’re unexperienced with Skype we made the mistake of not using headphones and it caused the occasional feedback. I guess you get what you pay for right? See you in 2 weeks!
-Josh

So, this is our first mid-month episode, and our first Skyped episode, and the first episode that I didn’t put together new music for.
I started off the month with such good intentions, but it turns out, 14 days isn’t a lot of time when work and life are conspiring to give you one of the busiest stretches of time you’ve experienced. Between work trips to Wisconsin and New York, a bachelor party, a wedding, a birthday, and regular stuff like work, and home responsibilities…
It’s been a struggle, not just to put together the extra stuff for the show, but just to record the show itself. At this point, it’s looking like the next episode might be recorded over Skype as well, just because we won’t have time to meet and snuggle in person. Did I mention I’m headed to New Orleans next week? I keep telling Josh (and myself) that once we get through June, things’ll settle down again, and we can get back to recording quality entertainment – in person. I’m not sure either of us believe me.
Certainly don’t take all this whining to mean that we’re changing anything or that we’re doing away with our new schedule – we’re not. We’re both committed to this thing, and it’s only going to get better.
-Justin

Well I’ll be interested to hear your console thoughts in the next episode, since pretty much all the big news happened after your recorded this. One thing that strikes me, frequently, while listening to your podcast is that you guys are as much console gamers as I am a PC gamer, and you talk about picking up games on sale and cheap and I just keep thinking STEAM….which I am currently in right now, trading cards.

I did not watch the video version, since my internet is shit and after a couple of minutes of playing the video it decided to quit playing, but for your first Skype episode I think it went well!

Also, you totally sold that to me Justin! And I’ve now sold it to someone else. The circle continues.

In regard to the photoshopped artwork for this episode, Josh you’d make a scary looking woman.
